The NonProfit Network

Many nonprofits feel like they are navigating without support other than their members and board to guide them. In the Nonprofit Networking group, we will create opportunities for learning and camaraderie with local experts on Nonprofits and the specific challenges they face.

This month our guest speaker will be Jackie Downing, Director of Grantmaking and Nonprofit Support at the Community Foundation for Greater New Haven, and the topic will be "How to Build a Better Board."

The most effective organizations have boards and staff that work together effectively.  The session begins with a close look at board recruitment, structure, and culture, and explores the responsibility to provide financial sustainability. We’ll talk about a Boards basic responsibilities, the importance of by-laws, assessing Board and Board member performance and the Board’s relationship with the Executive Director.
