Join ecologist Aubree Keurajian for a walk around Bauer Park! Foraging for wild grown food is becoming increasingly popular, but in some places this has put native species at risk. For this reason, discussions of foraging sustainably often focus on ensuring that the populations we harvest from can continue to provide food into the future, but we can go even further, and actually help the ecosystem with our foraging. By selectively foraging for introduced and invasive species we can reduce the competition that our native plants are facing, and we'll stop competing with our native pollinators, and other specialist insects, for food. Of course, the most important thing in foraging is safety, and that starts with properly identifying plants. Learn important characteristics, useful resources, and the identities of common edible species in your neighborhood.
