Program Description

Event Details

Celestial navigation is the art & science of finding your way by the sun, moon, stars and planets. It is one of the oldest guidance techniques known to man and was frequently used in coastal towns like Madison by sailors going to sea. Brian Kohler of the Mystic Seaport's Treworgy Planetarium will demonstrate, using vintage tools & instruments, how to chart a course on the open seas with the help of participants. Afterwards, he will take the audience outside for a stargazing session with one of the Planetarium's powerful telescopes to experience the highlights of the autumn sky. All ages are welcome! This is a Topically Ted Event, held in honor of the eponymous Madison resident and beloved friend of the library. These special events are made possible by the Ted Mallory family.
